We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the technical strategy and product roadmap of the Wasafiri App—a fast-growing African travel tech startup. As the CTO, you will drive the architecture, development, and scalability of our digital ecosystem while playing a key leadership role in shaping our company’s future.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical strategy and manage the product development roadmap
• Oversee AWS cloud infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency
• Collaborate with external app development partners to manage delivery timelines and maintain code quality
• Set up and integrate customer support systems (e.g., Freshdesk, WhatsApp, chatbots)
• Build and automate a secure, AI-enhanced customer experience including self-service flows
• Recruit, manage, and grow a high-performing in-house technical team
• Monitor system performance and ensure compliance with global data protection standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS)
• Work closely with the Founder/CEO to align tech strategy with business growth and product vision

Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or a technical leadership role
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront)
• Familiarity with mobile app development stacks (e.g., React Native, Flutter, Firebase, Node.js)
• Previous experience managing remote or hybrid teams
• Proven ability to oversee external tech vendors and development partners
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, cloud architecture, and API integrations
• Exposure to AI tools or automation platforms is a strong plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Must be based in Nairobi or willing to relocate
